You’ve tried to stop before. This time, you don’t do it alone.
Online therapy for adults working through sex addiction, codependency, and trauma, with structured recovery frameworks that actually hold.
If you’re here, you’re probably exhausted. Maybe you’ve tried to stop before and couldn’t. Maybe you’re carrying shame about behaviors you can’t control. Maybe past trauma is running your present life.
Here’s what I know from 16+ years of clinical work and my own recovery: this pattern makes sense. Your brain is trying to protect you with tools that worked once but don’t anymore. Recovery isn’t about willpower, it’s about building new frameworks that support the life you actually want.
About D.J. Burr
I’m D.J. Burr. I help adults break free from sex addiction, trauma, and codependency using structured recovery frameworks that honor both your struggle and your strength, because real healing needs structure and honest connection, not just one or the other.
I’m a licensed therapist (LMHC, LPC) and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional with 16+ years of clinical experience, trained in EMDR. I’m also a published author, speaker, and podcast host. I identify as a Black, gay, cis-gender man, and I work from my own long-term recovery as much as my training.
I see clients online and am licensed in Washington, Oregon, Georgia, Vermont, South Carolina, and Virginia. I don’t accept insurance (here’s why), but I provide monthly superbills you can submit for out-of-network reimbursement.

Reviews for I Just Wanted Love: Recovery of a Codependent, Sex and Love Addict:
“A book about sexual addiction can be a difficult sell. But anyone who has struggled to overcome compulsive behavior (and even those who have loved such individuals) should be able to relate to I JUST WANTED LOVE. This is partially due to the fact that author D.J. Burr, LMHC, NCC, S-PSB has not only lived through and overcome the problems of codependency and sexual addiction but, as a licensed therapist, specializes in working with individuals with the same issues. So not only is he equipped to clearly yet objectively explain the situation, but he also points out underlying similarities by for example, enumerating the various phases of predation, such when Kenny, a much older and married family friend starts “grooming” the author during his teenage years (Chapter One). This provides insight and sets the stage for compassion and understanding. Rather than focusing on the “bad old days” a common misstep in many such books about addiction–the author concentrates equally on recovery–more useful information for all parties.” — Judge, 23rd Annual Writer’s Digest Self-Published Book Award
